Good Shepherd Holistic Ministry Teams Breaking the cycle of poverty is the key to bringing transformation to the urban poor. Most people living in the slums have no skills, no education and no hope of escaping their desperate situation. Through OM India’s Good Shepherd teams, however, these people can find the way to be free from poverty. Children are educated and adults are trained with employable skills. Women are empowered to earn incomes for their families. Men are encouraged to clean up their lives, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and take care of their wife and children. Good Shepherd Ministries seeks to develop the whole person – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. OM India’s Good Shepherd Holistic Ministries teams are located in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Calcutta, Pune and Bhopal. |
Operation Mobilization India has nine Good Shepherd Ministry Teams. Good Shepherd Holistic Ministries is an innovative venture to help the poorest of the poor found in the urban slums of India. Its aim is to proclaim the love of Christ both in word and in deed, and to see caring Christian commitments established among the poor. In partnership with local churches, OM India runs medical clinics, primary schools for children, literacy classes for adults, vocational training for men and women, house fellowship groups for believers and other development-related projects. In every area, the ultimate goal is to start a new believers’ fellowship under the umbrella of OM India’s Good Shepherd Community Church network.
