Joining Process

Application Stage

What YOU do

  • Application - Complete and submit online application

What WE do

  • Assign you to a Placement Advisor who will walk with you through the remainder of your journey to the field.
  • Review your application
  • Determine appropriate next step
Assessment Stage*

What YOU do

  • Assessment Material - Complete and submit Assessment-related material and tasks as directed by your Placement Advisor. These include but are not limited to:
    • References/Reference Form – listing four people to whom we can send reference forms, one of them being a pastoral reference from your sending church
    • MMPI-2/Proctor Form for MMPI-2(The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) – An assessment tool we use to help us evaluate candidates’ readiness to serve. You will need a qualified proctor to administer this to you (commonly a church staff member).
    • Background Check Authorization Form– All candidates must sign a release for us to perform a criminal background check.
    • Personal History Questions – Respond to questions pertaining to your upbringing and life experience
    • Physical/Physical Form – Consists of a form to be filled out by you and the attending physician of your choice who performs your physical
    • Release Form – To be signed, completed and notarized.
    • Assessment Fee – This fee offsets expenses incurred for various assessment tools and contracted professionals we use to assist us in the assessment process.
  • Phone Interview
  • OutBound Conference - Register for and attend this week-long conference held here in our office near Atlanta, GA. Please be aware that we cannot accommodate children unless they are infants/nursing babies.

What WE do

  • Send reference forms to your references and send your proctor the MMPI-2 Assessment packet.
  • Schedule a phone interview once we receive and review all of your assessment materials.
  • Invite you to attend the OutBound Conference where you will learn more about OM and be equipped to raise financial and prayer support.
Acceptance Stage*

What YOU do

  • Field Acceptance -Work with your Advisor to be accepted to your particular field
  • Support Raising - Begin meeting with your church and individuals to establish the necessary prayer and financial support to go.
  • Final Preparations: Passports, insurances, visas, immunizations, church commissioning, etc – as directed by your Advisor.
  • GO Conference - a 10 day international conference for new OM staff. GO (Global Orientation) Conferences are held twice each year in January (Germany) and August (Holland).
  • Departure - Depart for Field (normally directly from GO Conference)

What WE do

  • Determine Acceptance - shortly after OutBound you will be notified by your Advisor if you are accepted to join OM USA.
  • Work with field personnel to facilitate your acceptance to one of OM’s teams.
  • Receive and process support donations from your donors and keep you informed.
  • Release you to arrange travel to the GO conference and your target field after all requirements are met.

* Some of the tasks in these stages may happen in a different order than listed here depending on your specific circumstance. Your Advisor will guide you on what to do specifically at any given moment in the process.
